Ernakulam: A massive explosion took place today morning at around 11 am in a firecracker unit warehouse in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam district.
It is reported that one person has been confirmed dead in an explosion at a firecracker warehouse. Reports say that Vishnu, a resident of Ulloor, Thiruvananthapuram, succumbed to death.
As per the reports that several people were injured in the blast, with two individuals admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Around 25 houses in the nearby area were also damaged.
The explosion occurred at a warehouse center used to store firecrackers delivered from Palakkad and Coimbatore. It happened while the firecrackers brought from Palakkad were being unloaded from the vehicle, which was also completely burnt in the explosion. The seriously injured are undergoing treatment at Thrippunithura Taluk Hospital and Kalamassery Medical College Hospital.
Locals reported that the explosion scattered and affected an area up to a kilometer surrounding the spot.
