Thiruvananthapuram: Shops will remain closed across the state on Tuesday until 8 pm as the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) has announced a token strike in protest against the government’s perceived anti-merchant policies. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA) state president, G Jaipal has announced that hotels and bakeries will be closed from 6 am to 6 pm. Despite the call for the strike, a group of traders has chosen not to participate.
The strike excludes hotels in Thiruvananthapuram district, where the association has organised a protest march to the secretariat. The association’s demands, totaling 29, include the establishment of a separate ministry for trade by consolidating laws and departments related to commerce.
