Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government failed to provide details in the Legislative Assembly regarding the vehicles used during Nava Kerala Sadas. The failure of the government to provide details of the vehicles is in addition to its neglect to put forth a correct amount of the total expenses for the Nava Kerala Sadas.
A question was raised in the Legislative Assembly regarding the details of the vehicles used by the Chief Minister and other ministers as part of Nava Kerala Sadas. However, the Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, told the house that the details of the vehicles have not been collected.
During the Nava Kerala Sadas, the Chief Minister and his cabinet members travelled in a luxury bus which cost near Rs.1.5 crores. At that time, the CM justified that it was to cut costs. However, his claims were hollow as the media reported that all the vehicles of the ministers travelled along with the luxury bus. When the vehicles of the security officers and those of the personal staff are also included, the convoy consisted of a near 100 vehicles.
The government’s refusal to furnish the details of the vehicles is out of fear that the public will come to know about the exact number of vehicles. It will also put a hole in the CM’s claim that they travelled in a bus to cut costs.
The Nava Kerala Sadas was a more than one month outreach programme by the CM, along with his cabinet, travelling across all the assembly constituencies in the state. This outreach program was undertaken at a time when the state is reeling under severe financial burden.
The Nava Kerala Sadas had also aimed to collect complaints from the public and resolve it. However, 90% of the complaints are still pending waiting for resolution.
