Ernakulam: Nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the tragic explosion at a firecracker warehouse in Thrippunithura, as confirmed by Hill Palace Police. Among those arrested are five individuals associated with Thekkumpuram Karayogam and four people who assisted them in staying hidden. The arrests were made in Munnar, and the suspects have been transported to Hill Palace Station for further interrogation.
The explosion, which occurred on Monday morning, resulted in the loss of two lives and left 16 individuals injured. The deceased have been identified as Vishnu (27), hailing from Ulloor, Thiruvananthapuram, and Divakaran (55) from Punalur. The blast also caused extensive damage to surrounding residences, with approximately 45 houses affected, including 10 completely destroyed.
Previously, four individuals, including members of the temple committee, were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently on remand. To investigate the circumstances leading to the explosion, a magisterial inquiry has been initiated under the supervision of Fort Kochi sub-collector K Meera. The inquiry aims to examine matters, including any possible negligence on the part of the officials involved.
