Thiruvananthapuram: Theatre owners announced their decision to stop screening Malayalam movies from February 22 onwards. The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEOUK) has taken this step in response to longstanding issues faced by theatre owners, primarily concerning the early release of movies on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms after their theatrical release.
The decision comes amid growing discontent among theatre owners and producers regarding the terms of movie agreements, particularly concerning the early OTT release of newly released movies in theaters. According to existing contracts, movies are allowed to be released on OTT platforms only after 40 days of their theatrical release. However, many films releasing on OTT platforms before this particular period have raised concerns among theatre owners.
