Wayanad: The people of Wayanad are voicing their outrage following the death of Paul, an eco-tourism employee, who fell victim to a wild elephant attack. The incident has sparked widespread protests, with demonstrators gathering in Pulpally town today. Earlier Politcal parties had announced their decision to observe Hartal in Wayanad today.
Protesters took direct action, halting a Forest Department vehicle and placed a wreath upon it. Subsequently, they escalated their protest by affixing the carcass of a cow, killed by a tiger, onto the vehicle after breaking its roof.
The anger directed towards Forest Department officials has intensified, particularly as officers received police protection during the protests. Tensions soared as protesters deflated the tires of police vehicles and attempted to obstruct officers capturing the events on their mobile phones. The situation remains tense in the area.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed to convene a high-level meeting led by ministers. Scheduled for the 20th of this month, the meeting will be led by ministers from the Revenue, Forest, and Local Self-Government departments. It is expected to be a comprehensive gathering, with participation from all people’s representatives, including local officials from Wayanad district, as well as various high-ranking officials.
