Wayanad: Two individuals were arrested for protesting against the Forest Department after the death of Paul, an eco-tourism employee, in a wild elephant attack. Shiju Kanjirathinkal, hailing from Kurichipatta, and Vasu from Pulpally have been apprehended. They face charges of assaulting a forest department vehicle, obstructing the handling of a dead body, and assaulting officials. Additionally, several others have been taken into custody, with police indicating ongoing scrutiny of CCTV footage to identify and detain more individuals involved in the conflict.
Paul was killed in a wild elephant attack on February 16. This led to a huge protest in Pulpally, against the state government and the forest department. Protesters showed their anger by placing a wreath on a Forest Department vehicle and tying the carcass of a cow killed by a tiger to it. The police then used lathi charge to control the situation.
