Kannur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched the sitting seat of the Congress in the Mattannur Municipality , marking its maiden victory in the history of the Mattannur Municipality. BJP candidate A. Madhusudanan secured the victory over the UDF candidate by a margin of 72 votes.
The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of UDF councilor KV Prashant. The BJP made significant progress in the previous local body elections. However, the Congress candidate narrowly won by a slim margin, securing the seat with a majority of just 12 votes.
BJP candidate A. Madhusudanan received 395 votes, while the UDF candidate K.V. Jayachandran garnered 323 votes. The left- wing independent candidate Amal Mani obtained just 103 votes.
