Thrissur: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan became angry with lyricist Shibu Chakravarthy yesterday during the ‘Mukhamukham’ (Face to face with CM) event. The ‘Mukhamukham’ programme event held at Thrissur, involved direct interaction of individuals from the arts and culture sector, with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
The incident occurred when lyricist Shibu Chakravarthy raised a question during the open interaction session, inquiring about the Kerala government’s initiatives to enhance the quality of the KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA) in Kottayam.
(KRNNIVSA is an institute established by the Government of Kerala. It serves as a training-cum-research centre in film and audio-visual technology, founded in 2014)
Shibu Chakravarthy mockingly said that Kerala has a National Institute for Visual Science and Arts in Kottayam district for the past 10 years, but it has not been functioning to a national standard. He then urged CM Pinarayi Vijayan to take steps to elevate the institute’s quality to a level that of Pune Film Institute or Satyajith Ray Institute. He emphasized that its status as ‘National’ should reflect more than just a name. This request seemed to agitate CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
In response to Shibu Chakravarthy’s question, Pinarayi Vijayan retorted angrily, stating that it was unfair to criticize in such a manner simply because one had the opportunity to speak openly.
The ‘Mukhamukham’ programme, featuring the CM’s interaction with personalities from the arts and culture sector, took place at the Lulu International Convention Centre in Thrissur. News reporters and media were not permitted to attend the event.
