Idukki: Locals staged a protest against the forest guards following the death of an auto driver in a wild elephant attack in Munnar. They allege that the officials did not take appropriate action after the incident and accuse the forest department of neglecting the issue of continuous wildlife attacks and killings.
The protestors have declared that they will not release the body until senior forest department officials arrive at the hospital. Meanwhile, several tourist vehicles are stranded on the road in the area as hartal supporters have blocked vehicles in Munnar town.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday (Monday) when Suresh Kumar, a native of Kannimala Estate, was traveling with his family in an auto. A wild elephant unexpectedly rushed towards them and attacked the auto. Suresh Kumar, who was badly injured in the attack, was rushed to the hospital, but he could not be saved.
