Lena surprises Malayalees by revealing her marriage with Gaganyaan astronaut Prasanth Balakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram: Popular actor Lena has given a huge surprise to Malayalees on Tuesday by announcing her marriage with Air Force Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, the proud Malayali among the four pilots shortlisted for Gaganyaan mission, India’s first human space flight mission. She revealed that due to the required confidentiality, she had to keep the marriage a secret till Prasanth’s name was announced officially by Prime Minister Modi for the Gaganyaan mission.

Lena announced the news of her marriage through an Instagram post where she also posted photos of her with Prasanth. She said she tied the knot with Prasanth on January 17, 2024.

Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair is from Nenmara, Palakkad district. He joined the Air Force in 1999 and is a Sukhoi fighter pilot Group Captain. He has been undergoing training along with other pilots for Gaganyaan mission for the past few years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday the names of the four astronauts who will be part of India’s first human space flight program, Gaganyaan scheduled to be launched in 2024-25. The four chosen Indian Air Force pilots are Group Captain Prashanth Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. The four astronauts were trained at Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Kerala, reviewed the progress of Gaganyaan mission and bestowed ‘astronaut wings’ to the astronaut-designates at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. The Gaganyaan mission is India’s first human space flight program for which extensive preparations are underway at various ISRO centres.
