Ernakulam: The High Court has acknowledged that men can also be victims of sexual assault. Justice Devan Ramachandran highlighted a concerning trend of increasing instances of boys falling prey to sexual violence compared to previous years. This observation came during the deliberation of a petition challenging the practice of permitting only female gynecologists to examine rape victims.
The court emphasized that the incidence of sexual assault is not limited to women alone, with the number of male victims also showing an upward trend. While the existing protocol aims to provide support and assistance to victims of violence, the High Court underscored the need to consider a separate protocol tailored to support male victims of sexual assault.
Justice Devan Ramachandran noted that while the current legal framework may not be flawed, any existing challenges should be addressed. He further announced that the case will be revisited on March 5,
