Thiruvananthapuram: K Surendran, the BJP State President, personally met with Civil Police rank holders who have been adversely affected by the state government’s recruitment ban. Over a thousand candidates, despite being included in the rank list, find themselves unable to secure employment and have been staging a round-the-clock strike for over two weeks. Surendran stepped forward to support them, joining the protest in front of the Secretariat.
Addressing the gathering, Surendran highlighted the detrimental effects of the appointment ban in Kerala, lamenting the loss of lives due to the government’s biased treatment towards party affiliates. He emphasized the alarming rise in unemployment within the state, contrasting it with the decreasing national average. He noted the recent suicide of 27-year-old Sujith, who took his own life after failing to secure a job despite being on the rank list. Surendran and others paid tribute to Sujith by lighting candles, acknowledging him as a victim of governmental neglect.
“Thousands of Civil Police rank holders have been on strike in front of the Secretariat for the past seventeen days, yet their plight remains unnoticed. Today, I visited their protest stage. It is indeed an appointment ban in Kerala. Across all departments, only contractual appointments are being made to accommodate party members. While the national unemployment rate is decreasing, it is on the rise in Kerala. The Chief Minister must urgently convene a discussion with the protesters to find a solution to this problem. We returned after assuring them of our full support for the strike. The party and Yuva Morcha stand in solidarity with them,” wrote K Surendran on social media.
