Ernakulam: The High Court has acquitted eight accused in the case of the assault on CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan. The court considered the petitions of Kadicherry Aji(1), Tharukandoth Prashanth(2), Manoj (3), Para Sasi (4), Elamthottathil Manoj(5), Kuniyil Sanub(6), Jayaprakashan(7), Kovveri Pramod(8), and Thaikandi Mohanan(9). The court observed that the prosecution failed to produce strong evidence against the accused, leading to the acquittal of all except the second accused.
The incident related to the case occurred on August 25, 1999, during the Thiruvonam festival, when P. Jayarajan was assaulted at his house. A case was registered for attempted murder.
