Thiruvananthapuram: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) strongly opposed and condemned the decision of the organizing committee of the Kerala University Youth Festival 2024 led by SFI, to give ‘Intifada’ as the name of the youth festival. In a press release dated 29 February, 2024, they demanded for the name and logo to be changed with immediate effect.
ABVP said, “The term ‘intifada’ comes from the Arabic language and is commonly connected with terrorist organizations like Hamas in Palestine, which are responsible for inciting fear and bloodshed. Kerala is the land of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and Sri Narayan Guru, who devoted their sacred life with the purpose of preserving and strengthening national unity and integrity, by spreading the ancient Bharatiya culture of knowledge and welfare of humankind. ABVP has a strong opinion that this is an art and cultural festival embracing artistic performance and talents of students by elevating the prosperous culture of Kerala, whereas, SFI is misleading students, creating fear and violence in the young minds with such extremist terminologies.
It is known that the organizing committee of the Kerala University Youth Festival 2024 led by SFI, gave this notorious and suspicious name ‘Intifada’ to the annual cultural festival to be held March 7 to 11, 2024 at Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, with the intention of legitimising this word, used by many Islamist terrorist orgnizations including Hamas and even in J&K. The logo has been unveiled by the registrar of the Kerala University. The logo depicted the word ‘Intifada’ as ‘Resistance of arts against the invasion’. Minority appeasement by radicalising it has become part of SFI’s activism, similar to its parent organisation CPI(M). With this incident it is clear how the left organisations are making effort to legitimize the extremist and terror terminologies as new-normal. This is a situation where it is becoming a bit difficult now to differentiate between SFI and PFI.”
ABVP Kerala’s State Secretary E U Eswaraprasad said, “SFI has publicly supported radicalism by the name ‘Intifada’. We demand the removal of the current logo of the Kerala University’s Youth Festival, and the creation of a new one that may reflect the prosperous, rich culture and values of Kerala. This is a foul attempt of SFI for legitimizing the Islamist terror terminologies and misleading the young minds.”
ABVP’s National Secretary Shravan B. Raj said, “Kerala is the birthplace of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and Sree Narayan Guru. Adi shankaracharya held the ideal of Rashtra Dharma to be Supreme, and invested his life with the purpose of preserving and strengthening national unity and integrity. Sree Narayana Guru, advocated a Sanatana Dharma based social engineering to Kerala’s society and brought the reformations that taught equality and one caste, one religion, one God for mankind. The left organizations like SFI are deliberately demeaning such a prosperous culture of the state by spreading their hate propaganda by legitimizing radical terminologies in educational institutions.”
