New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed Malabar Devaswom’s move to acquire Thrissur’s Kapliyangad Devi temple. The stay was granted on the Devaswom Board’s order appointing the Executive Officer. M. Divakaran, the Managing Trustee of the temple, had approached the Supreme Court regarding the incident.
The Kapliyangad Devi Temple is situated in the Vadakkekad area of Thrissur district. Lawyers representing the Managing Trustee informed the Supreme Court that it is a private temple. Consequently, the court stayed the temple’s acquisition and issued a notice to the opposing parties.
Arguments regarding the temple’s ownership are ongoing in the Civil Court. In this situation, the Managing Trustee requested a stay of the High Court’s order favoring the Malabar Devaswom Board’s takeover of the temple. A bench comprising Justices MM Sundaresh and SV Bhatti granted the stay.
