Thiruvananthapuram: It seems that the CPI State Secretary, Kanam Rajendran, and his party colleagues are not seeing eye to eye on the issue of police brutality that broke the hand of an MLA belonging to CPI.

While CPI Ministers and other party leaders are talking tough against the brutal police crackdown which injured party MLA, Eldo Abraham, the State Secretary is saying that he has spoken to the Chief Minister and an investigation is on. He is ready to wait till the report of the investigation comes.

Yesterday, the CPI Ministers took a strong stand during the Cabinet meeting and had an exchange of words with the CPI(M) Ministers in the issue.

Meanwhile, the injured MLA, Eldho Abraham, has come down heavily against the action of the police. He said that he has not seen such a bad police before and lamented that there is no one to control the police brutality in the state.

Interestingly, Pinarayi Vijayan also looks after the home ministry and has the complete control of the police force. Yet the police department has come under severe criticism for the brutality and inefficiencies of its officers.

CPI State Secretary, Kanam Rajendran, who used to criticise the government for their lapse and policy decisions chose to remain quite when one of his own cadre and an MLA was beaten up by the police. The question on everyone’s mind is why Kanam has taken a soft position against the Chief Minister on such a crucial issue.
