Thiruvananthapuram: Parents of the abducted two-year-old girl from Pettah expressed their gratitude towards the police officers responsible for apprehending the accused. Vowing to prioritize their children’s safety, the relieved parents declared their intention to refrain from leaving their children unattended in open areas and from taking them to work. They stated that upon the safe return of their child and her siblings, currently under the care of the Child Protection Committee, they would promptly return to their native place.
The accused in the abduction case, identified as Hassankutty alias Kabir, was apprehended by the police in Kollam recently. According to reports, Hassankutty allegedly spotted the two-year-old girl lying unattended on the roadside upon reaching Thiruvananthapuram from Kollam. With malicious intent, he abducted the child, but her cries prompted him to cover her mouth, inadvertently causing her to lose consciousness. In his statement to the police, the accused confessed to abandoning the girl in a drain before fleeing in fear.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, and attempted sexual assault. It was revealed that Hassankutty, released from jail on January 12, had traveled to Thiruvananthapuram and attempted to abduct the girl from here. He specifically targeted children from nomadic communities for assault, reportedly confident that they would not report the incidents to the police.
