Kozhikode: Kerala’s Minister of Public Works, PA Mohammed Riyas, has defended SFI amidst allegations of mob trial and torture, which resulted in the death of second-year student Siddharth at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Pookode. Mohammed Riyas asserted that the media’s portrayal amounts to a political mob lynching against the SFI, exploiting the incident for political gains ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He further alleged that the real aim behind such narratives was to dismantle the SFI entirely.
Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Mohammed Riyas stated, “Siddharth’s death is manipulated as a mob attack against SFI. The aim is to make it a propaganda tool in Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, the objective behind this manipulation is to dismantle SFI. However, that’s not going to happen. SFI will overcome any challenges it faces and bounce back. Also, destroying SFI is the aim behind this. But that’s not going to happen SFI will overcome whatever comes its way and come back. They prevail because the politics advocated by SFI is genuine.”
He mentioned that there are ongoing campaigns aimed at expelling individuals associated with the SFI. The Minister questioned the ethicality of these actions. He clarified that while Siddharth’s demise was indeed tragic, it was being exploited as propaganda against the SFI. The Minister said that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
