Thiruvananthapuram: The Federation of Employees and Teachers Organizations (FETO) state general secretary, PS Gopakumar, has called for the transfer of administrative responsibilities to Raj Bhavan, citing the failure of the Chief Minister to disburse employee salaries and pension amounts.
Speaking at the inauguration of a secretariat march organized by FETO on the fourth day of delayed salaries and pensions, Gopakumar criticized the Pinarayi government for its inability to ensure timely payments. He highlighted the unprecedented situation where salaries and pensions were not disbursed on the first day of the month, leading to immense hardship for employees and pensioners alike.
Gopakumar pointed out the dire consequences of the government’s failure, including the rising number of suicides among farmers and the suffering of the elderly dependent on welfare pensions. He also criticized the government for its inability to curb price hikes in public markets and for reducing subsidies, making life difficult for the common man.
Highlighting the broader impact of delayed salaries, Gopakumar emphasized that not only employees and pensioners but also various sections of society, such as dairy farmers, newspaper sellers, and small-scale vendors, rely on these payments for their livelihoods.
The protest, chaired by FETO District President S Vinod Kumar, received support from various organizations, including the Kerala Gazetted Officers Sangh, NGO Sangh, Federation of University Employees Sangh, PSC Employees Sangh, and Pensioners Sangh.
The demonstration, led by district leaders A Arunkumar, G Harikumar, BG Satheesh Kumar, Santhosh Ambalatharayil and others marched from Ayyankali Hall to the Secretariat, urging immediate action to address the ongoing salary crisis in Kerala.
