Thiruvananthapuram: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) effort to get the name and logo of Kerala University Art Festival changed sees light. The Vice Chancellor (VC) has now taken a positive stand advising against the use of the name ‘Intifada’ in the logo of Kerala University Art Festival.
ABVP National Secretary Shravan B Raj has commended the Vice Chancellor for this positive decision. He said, “ABVP had taken legal action by filing a petition in the High Court and had also submitted a complaint to the Governor and the VC on this matter. The logo of the University Art Festival is aimed at creating terrorism in the society. It raises questions, whether the Kerala University Union is governed by SFI or PFI.
Intifada refers to the six-year-long armed uprising that killed 5,000 Palestinians and 1,500 Israelis. In fact, all armed activities carried out by Islamic extremists are called intifada. From the violence in Kashmir before the abrogation of Article 370, to the terrorist Islamic extremism that is happening around the world has been spelled out in the name of the logo of a creative arts festival. The aim to give an Arabic name to the arts festival, despite even 1% of the students being not knowing its meaning, suggests SFI’s intent to foster social unrest and conflicts in society.”
ABVP State Secretary EU Eswaraprasad said that promoting riots and endorsing the ideologies of terrorist organizations like Hamas under the guise of an arts festival, while neglecting the essence of art, creativity, and our language, is an attempt to instill ideas of terrorism and unrest in the minds of students.
He said, “Left-wing organizations such as SFI are drawing global attention to Islamic extremism in Kerala. The inclusion of the name ‘Intifada’ in the festival’s logo is seen as a form of propaganda for terrorism.” ABVP State Secretary in his statement, had called for the withdrawal of the logo, emphasizing the need for Malayalam names related to the art festival that truly reflect and highlight art and creativity.
