Thrissur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suresh Gopi started the Lok Sabha election campaign in Thrissur. Suresh Gopi told the media that healthy competition is going to take place in Thrissur and what should be discussed in Kerala is development.
“I have absolute faith in public. This time there is a perfect hope of winning. I am not interested in allegations and counter-allegations. The party will decide the matters regarding the allocation of central ministership. Only 73 people can become ministers. If the BJP wins in Thrissur, Modi’s guarantee will be implemented in Thrissur. All I have to say to the people is that they should make me win for the development of Thrissur,” said Suresh Gopi.
Suresh Gopi also said that only those who travel the path of communalism will appraise the crown he gifted to ‘Lady of Lourdes’ as an offering.
He was referring to the spreading of false propaganda against him, who gifted a gold crown to ‘Lady of Lourdes’ seeking blessings for his daughter on her wedding. His daughter’s wedding that was held in Thrissur’s Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple, had made the headlines with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malayalam actors including Mammootty and Mohanlal present among invitees.
This act of Suresh Gopi which he said was purely an act related to his faith had led to a controversy. It was alleged that he used the golden crown as a political gimmick to win the hearts of voters from the Christian community. Thrissur Corporation Councillor Leela Varghese, a member of the Congress party, is reported to have asked the parish council meeting of the Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral, Thrissur, to clarify about the weight of the golden crown offered by Suresh Gopi to the Church.
This enraged the BJP leader who said, “My faith in ‘Our Lady of Lourdes’ is a family tradition. Many believers do such offerings, and I was one of them. Many have offered more than me; and some less. I offered according to my capacity. Go to banks like Karuvannur to calculate how much you should answer for the blood and lives of lakhs of poor people instead of going after what I offered in the name of my belief.”
He then asked the people of Thrissur, “Don’t you now understand the communalism of other party members? What a disgrace! The public also understood who is communal.” Suresh Gopi lashed out at the Communist Party and Congress demanding that instead of delving into the offering he made as an act of faith, they better investigate into the matter on Karavannur Cooperative bank scam where lakhs of people who deposited their hard earned money into the bank are struggling to get their money back.
Suresh Gopi’s outburst was during the road show organized in Thrissur. His road show took place yesterday shaking the city of Thrissur. Thousands of people came to welcome Suresh Gopi at Thrissur railway station. BJP workers and others welcomed him to Thrissur showering flowers on him and shouting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans. He expressed his happiness by greeting all who came to see him.
