Kochi: In a setback to the Kerala government, the Supreme Court has rejected the government’s request to take disciplinary action against former KTU Vice Chancellor Ciza Thomas. The court’s action occurred without even hearing the detailed argument. Rejecting the plea, the Supreme Court stated that officials should not be made scapegoats for the Governor-Government conflict.
The Pinarayi government demanded that Ciza Thomas took charge as the VC of KTU University without seeking the permission of the state government, and for this reason, disciplinary action should be taken against her. However, Ciza Thomas approached the High Court against this and obtained a favorable verdict. Subsequently, the government approached the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court rejected the petition when it became clear that the Pinarayi government’s dispute with the Governor was behind the move against Ciza Thomas.
The Governor appointed Ciza Thomas as the interim VC of KTU after the appointment of former KTU VC Rajasree was canceled by the Supreme Court. However, this decision angered the state government.
