Thiruvananthapuram: The mysterious death of veterinary student Siddharth has isolated the Pinarayi government. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has taken proactive measures in Siddharth’s case with the announcement of a long march demanding CBI investigation. This case has now become a major topic of discussion for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Pinarayi government, the Left front and the SFI are now literally isolated over the mysterious death of Pookode Veterinary College student Siddharth, a native of Nedumangad. The attempt to portray Siddharth who died due to brutal physical abuse, as an SFI member, and the filing of a complaint against Siddharth by a girl student for misbehaviour, have fell apart one by one.
The silence of the Chief Minister on this issue, the visit of a minister who was unable to recall the name of Siddharth, the silence of the cultural leaders, are all being discussed by the social media. Apart from this, the picture of the opposition leader VD Satheesan sitting next to Siddharth’s grieving father and laughing over a phone call has caused a great embarrassment to the opposition UDF in the social media.
The isolation of the Left government and SFI was very evident during the press conference held by DYFI, for defending the Left front on the issue.
After suspending the Vice-Chancellor of the university responsible for Siddharth’s death, the action of the Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, who also suspended the Dean, has shocked even the state’s higher education department. This action of the Governor was after he visited Siddharth’s house.
Union Minister V Muraleedharan’s hunger strike at Nedumangad demanding the arrest of all the criminals related to Siddharth’s case has also gained attention.
The nationalist student organization ABVP said that it will be organizing a long march tomorrow from Siddharth’s residence in Nedumangad, to the Secretariat demanding CBI to take over this case. The march will be led by State Secretary EU Eswaraprasad. The ABVP had conducted a 24-hr hunger strike two days back in front of the Secretariat, demanding justice for Siddharth. ABVP State Secretary EU Eswaraprasad had said that if their peaceful protest does not see a positive result, they would intensify their protest in a different way.
With all these protests in action, it is certain that Siddharth’s case will be the main issue focused in the coming elections.
