Thiruvananthapuram: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), an all India student organisation with a nationalist ideology, is intensifying its protest against Siddharth’s murder. ABVP organized a long march yesterday from Siddharth’s house in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, for seeking justice to Siddharth and his family. Siddharth’s father, Jayaprakash, handed over the lighted torch to State Secretary EU Eswaraprasad, thus commencing the long march to Secretariat.
The objective behind the protest by ABVP through a long march was to demand a CBI investigation into Siddharth’s murder and to book the suspended Dean of the college as one of the accused in the case. They also demanded that the reign of terror of pro-left teachers and SFI activists on campuses should be wiped out.
ABVP National Secretary Shravan B. Raj said that this long march was aimed at ending the anguish of Siddharth’s parents. He said that the ABVP would protest until the CBI takes over the investigation and justice is served.
Allegations are strong that there is a move to sabotage the case and save the accused SFI members who are involved in the case. In light of this, ABVP has decided to continue the protest until Siddharth’s family gets justice. In the coming days they are planning to organise talks with public to make them aware of the dangers of ‘left ecosystem’ that has been dominant in many campuses in Kerala. If there is still no action taken by the government, ABVP has decided that it will hold a protest in front of Cliff House, the official residence of Kerala Chief Minister. The march which concluded in front of the Secretariat at 7 pm, received huge support from the people.
Siddharth a second year Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences student at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University campus in Pookode was found dead on February 18, 2024. Though it was declared that Siddharth had committed suicide, the injuries on his body found during post-mortem stated otherwise. The protests that followed made way for the arrests of many including the SFI members who assaulted Siddharth.
The Vice-Chancellor, the Dean and assistant hostel warden were all suspended as the enquiry proceeded. But the Chief Minister and his government are not taking a decisive stand to bring all the culprits to justice. The Chief Minister is being accused of not visiting Siddharth’s house, which is only 15 km from the Secretariat.
All these reasons has lead the ABVP to protest till Siddharth and his grieving family gets justice.
