Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President K Sudhakaran lashed out at All India Congress Committee (AICC) Spokesperson Shama Mohamed. Sudhakaran said that Shama Mohamed is not a member of the Congress party. He vehemently attacked Shama Mohamed after she expressed disappointment with the selection of Congress party candidates from Kerala for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Shama Mohamed expressed disappointment, stating that women and minorities from Kerala were not considered in the selection process by the Congress for the Lok Sabha candidates’ list. In response to this, Sudhakaran also stated that Shama Mohamed is not a member of the Congress and only participates in TV news channel discussions as a spokesperson of the Congress party.
Earlier, Shama Mohamed had criticized the Congress party, stating that women and minorities were not given enough consideration in the selection of candidates. Her statement came a day after the Congress announced its 16 candidates from Kerala for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Ramya Haridas being the only woman on the list.
Shama Mohamed mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s statement regarding 50 percent female representation, noting that last term there were only two women candidates, whereas this time it was reduced to ‘one.’ She added that Kerala has more than 51% of the female population, yet there was only one woman candidate from the Congress party for the election.
Shama Mohamed accused the Congress party of not considering women even in the party’s campaigning programs. She claimed that women were not given opportunities to come forward even on their party campaign programme stages. Shama Mohamed highlighted that Ramya Haridas received a ticket solely because Alathur is a reserved seat. Her statement came a day after the Congress announced its 16 candidates from Kerala for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Ramya Haridas being the only woman on the list.
