New Delhi: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded to withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) immediately. SDPI is propogating that the law is unconstitutional and will have a negative impact on Muslims. SDPI Kerala state president Muvattupuzha Ashraf Moulavi said that the SDPI will approach the Supreme Court against the notification to implement CAA.
The proposed law will grant citizenship rights to Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains, Buddhists and Christians who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014. Earlier, citizenship was given only to those who had resided in the country for at least 11 years. But according to the current amendment, this will be reduced to six years.
The refugees living in Delhi including the Hindus who came from Pakistani expressed hope and happiness in the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
