Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to rival the popularity of ‘Bharat Rice’, the Kerala government has introduced ‘K-Rice’ into the market starting today. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the distribution of K-Rice, positioning it as an alternative to Bharat Rice.
Under this initiative, out of every 10 kg of subsidized rice received through Supplyco, 5 kg will be sold as K-Rice, packed separately in designated bags. The pricing structure is set at Rs 29 per kg for ‘Jaya’ rice, Rs 30 per kg for ‘Kuruva’ rice, and ‘Matta’ rice respectively.
To ensure efficient distribution, ‘Jaya’ rice will be available in Thiruvananthapuram, ‘Matta’ rice in Kottayam and Ernakulam regions, and ‘Kuruva’ rice in Palakkad and Kozhikode regions. All rice will be distributed in branded Sabari K-Rice bags, with each bag priced between Rs 13 to 14, funded through advertisement revenues as confirmed by Minister GR Anil.
In addition to this development, a recent directive mandates the display of posters featuring the Chief Minister’s image in all ration shops. Titled ‘Proud of Our Public Distribution,’ these posters also feature the Food Minister’s picture. Authorities will conduct checks to ensure compliance with this directive.
