Ernakulam: Concerns arise as records of cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have gone missing from the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court. Among the lost documents are those pertaining to terrorism cases and a case involving death threats against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The accused individuals in these cases hail from Tamil Nadu.
This incident follows the recent disappearance of documents in the murder case of SFI leader Abhimanyu, raising serious questions about the security of crucial legal records. The missing UAPA case documents, which are meant to be highly secure, vanished just as the trial for the Abhimanyu case was set to commence.
The charge sheet for the Abhimanyu murder case was filed on September 26, 2018, after he was killed on July 2, 2018, during a clash between SFI-Campus Friend activists over graffiti at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam. The Sessions Judge has notified the High Court about the loss of these critical documents, further complicating the legal proceedings and raising concerns about the integrity of the judicial process.
