Thrissur: Putting rumors to rest, Zareena Kulsu’s recent acquisition of Indian citizenship stands as a powerful rebuttal against misconceptions surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), particularly concerning Muslims. Zareena Kulsu is now eligible to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as she has been granted Indian citizenship. Originally from Sri Lanka, Zareena received her citizenship certificate from Thrissur District Collector VR Krishna Teja. Having resided in Bharat for the past 32 years, this milestone marks a significant moment in her life.
Zareena’s story traces back to her arrival in Abu Dhabi with her father at the age of 18. In 1990, she married Ali Muhammad from Akamala, and two years later, she relocated to Akamala with him. Over the years, Zareena has been renewing her passport and visa annually while residing in Bharat. Finally, formerly hailing from Puttalam, Sri Lanka, Zareena has been granted Indian citizenship.
Interestingly, Zareena’s attainment of citizenship occurs against the backdrop of escalating debates and propaganda, which allege that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) discriminates against Muslims. Her citizenship serves as a counter-narrative to claims made by certain political factions, including Left leaders and the INDI Alliance, who have propagated misinformation about the CAA that it is potentially leading to the expulsion of Muslims from Bharat.
