Wayanad: It is reported that a mob trial had taken place at Pookode Veterinary University before. After the death of JS Siddharth, a second-year Veterinary student at Pookode Veterinary University, more instances of ragging were reported by taking the statements of students during the investigation. The college authorities also took action against students involved in such incidents earlier. Action has been taken against 13 students in two incidents in 2019 and 2021.
As the investigation unfolded, further details of such incidents of ragging came to light. In response, college authorities have taken decisive measures against those involved. Thirteen students have faced disciplinary actions, with four students being barred from internships after beating a student from the 2019 batch.
In a separate incident, two students were suspended, and the scholarships of two other students were cancelled in the case of assaulting a 2021 batch student. These findings emerged during a thorough investigation conducted by the anti-ragging squad.
Siddharth, a native of Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, was found hanged in the bathroom of the hostel of Pookode Veterinary University on February 18. It is alleged that Siddharth faced beatings and a public trial in the college on the 16th and 17th due to a dispute regarding the Valentine’s Day celebration. Following heavy protests and public anger against the government, the case of Siddharth’s death was handed over to the CBI by the Kerala government.
