Thiruvananthapuram: Pump owners in Kerala have declared their intention to cease fuel supply to police and government vehicles starting from the 1st of the upcoming month. The All Kerala Federation of Petroleum Traders made this announcement citing the non-payment of dues totaling Rs 2,000 crore from the previous month. This outstanding amount, according to the pump owners, has triggered a severe crisis within the industry. In a bid to address the issue, a letter has been submitted to the Chief Secretary and DGP.
The federation had previously warned about these arrears on January 1st. Four out of the six months’ dues at that time were settled with payments to the pumps. However, the subsequent six months’ dues are yet to be received. There are pumps awaiting arrears from the government, ranging from 4 lakhs to 25 lakhs. It has been declared that if the outstanding dues are not cleared by March 31st, fuel supply to police, fire force, revenue, and other government contractors will be completely halted.
