Thiruvananthapuram: The CBI report reveals the investigative lapses of the Kerala police’s investigation into the Jesna missing case. According to the report, Jesna Maria James, a native of Kollamula in Pathanamthitta and a graduate student, went missing in 2018. The report indicates that the local police did not efficiently conduct the initial investigation during the first 48 hours following Jesna’s disappearance, a crucial time period.
The report points out that the police, crime branch, and CBI are unaware of Jesna’s whereabouts.
In their efforts to locate Jesna, the CBI also analyzed recent missing cases in Kerala. As part of this, the CBI officials spoke with Hadiya, who had converted to Islam, amid speculation that Jesna might have also converted. Later, the CBI compared the Sajitha case, a native of Palakkad who went missing for 10 years and was later found at her boyfriend’s house. However, the investigation team came to the conclusion that Jesna’s disappearance has no similarity with the two cases.
According to the CBI report, it was also crucial in the case that some higher investigating officials informed that good news could be expected, suggesting that Jesna was hiding somewhere.
After conducting investigations across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Mumbai, the CBI filed a report to close the investigation in the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court.
According to the reports, Jesna Maria James, a second-year B.Com student at St. Dominic College in Kanjirappally, Kottayam district, went missing on March 22, 2018, while traveling from her home in Erumeli to a relative’s house in Mundakayam.
