Moscow: At least 60 people lost their lives when a group of armed assailants stormed a music concert hall in Moscow, opening fire and detonating explosives among the gathered crowd on Friday. Authorities have said that the death toll could rise further in the Crocus City Hall attack, in Moscow.
According to reports, five terrorists, armed with guns, indiscriminately fired upon the crowd for approximately 20 minutes. Following the gunfire, the assailants hurled bombs into the hall twice, increasing the scale of the tragedy.
Shortly after the attack, a message from the Islamic State claiming responsibility surfaced. The terrorist group characterized the incident as an assault on a large gathering of Christians and boasted of relocating their operatives to safety. Russian officials have announced that efforts to apprehend the assailants are underway.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the terrorist attack, describing it as a ‘heinous act’ and expressing solidarity with the Russian government and its people. “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the Russian Federation in this hour of grief,” PM Modi posted from his official X handle.
