Tel Aviv: Israel announced yesterday that the country would not allow two US Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnestoa. These two Muslim women are anti-Israel and support a boycott of the Jewish nation. The bar against these Democratic US Congresswomen is unprecedented and shows the audacity of Israel to protect its interest at all costs.
The newly elected representatives are highly critical of Israel’s policy towards Palestine and is in support of a Palestine-led boycott of Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while speaking about barring the US Congresswomen said, “Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar are leading activists in promoting the legislation of boycotts against Israel in American Congress.”
He also said that the two Muslim representatives’ objectives by the visit was to strengthen the boycott and deny Israel’s legitimacy.
Even US President Donald Trump tweeted his displeasure of duo’s visit to Israel. He said that it would show a great weakness from the part of Israel if they allowed them to visit.
Trump said, “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds.”
The US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, also supported Israel’s decision to bar Tlaib and Omar and said that Israel has every right to protect its borders.
The two democratic Congresswomen are vocal critics of Donald Trump as well and have protested against most of his policies. Rashida Tlaib’ family had immigrated to the United States from Palestine and still have close relatives in West Bank.
Both were invited by a Palestine organization MIFTAH to highlight the Palestinian cause in front of the world. The Congresswomen were active in the United States to thwart every Israel’s efforts to contain the Palestine.
Even the Democratic Party are divided over its support over Israel. While left leaning Democrats like Tlaib and Omar have deeply held animosity against the Jewish nation, there are a number of Democrats who support the Israeli cause.
The Democrats division could hinder their prospects in the coming 2020 elections in United States.
