Islamabad: In a first, a Hindu Pakistani girl has been reunited with her family after being kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam. She was saved just before being married off to a Muslim man in Sindh.
Media reports say that the girl, Reno Kumari, is a resident of Rohri in Sindh, and was kidnapped when she was on her way to college on 29 August. Her family said that she was abducted by a Muslim man.
Reports say that the police have arrested 12 persons in connection with the case. The crime comes just days after a Sikh girl was kidnapped and forced to convert into Islam. After international condemnation, the Sikh girl also was returned to her family.
This is the first instance that a Hindu girl who was kidnapped has been returned home to her family.
It is unfortunate that the minority Hindus, Christians, and Sikhs are suffering under the dominant Islam religion in Pakistan. Many minority girls are kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam and then married off to older Muslim men in the country.
Recently, two Hindu girls were kidnapped, forced to convert to Islam and then married to older men. The girls were also forced to say in front of camera that they have adopted Islam religion.
There has been international outcry against the actions of Pakistani authorities when it comes to treatment of minorities. Ethnic and religious minorities face a lifelong discrimination and live a life in fear from the fundamental Muslim elements.
