New Delhi: Abhijith Vinayak Banerjee, made India proud as he wins Nobel Prize in Economics. Abhijith jointly won this prestigious achievement with French Esther Duflo and American Michael Kremer.
The 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has been awarded to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty”, the selection team tweeted.
Esther Duflo is the wife and co-researcher of Abhijith Banerjee and she is the youngest person to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.
The Prize is awarded for the trio’s experiment based approach to handling poverty in the fast growing realms of development economics.
Abhijith, aged 59, is born in Mumbai and did his schooling in Kolkata and completed his Degree in Economics in 1981. He did his M A from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. He took his Ph.D in Economics from Harvard University,USA. Abhijith at present works at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
