Washington DC: The US President, Donald Trump, said that the top aide and successor of Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been also killed by security forces.
In a tweet, Trump said, “Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops. Most likely would have taken the top spot – Now he is also Dead!”
However, the President did not divulge any information about the person who was killed by American troops. He also refrained from giving out any more details of the operation that killed Baghdadi.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley, said in a Pentagon conference that the body of IS chief was disposed of appropriately. He said that Baghdadi’s body, which was mutilated after he self exploded, was brought to a secure facility where his identity was confirmed using DNA testing. After that his body was disposed.
The General added that the remains of Baghdadi was disposed in accordance with the law of armed conflict.
Milley also said that two men have been detained from the compound where Baghdadi was found and killed.
