Washington DC: The US States Department in a report says that Pakistan based terror organizations like Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) maintains the capability and the intent to strike at Indian and Afghan targets. The report was submitted on 1 November.
The US States Department’s report called ‘Country Reports on Terrorism 2018′ also states that Pakistan is not taking sufficient action against terrorist groups such as LeT and JeM. The report states that LeT and JeM still operate, train, organize and also fundraise in Pakistan.
It said that India is still experiencing attacks from Pakistan based terror organizations and said that India is applying pressure to detect, disrupt, and degrade terrorists’ operations within the borders.
The report also came down against Pakistan’s failure to restrict the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani Network from operating in that country’s safe havens.
It said, “The government (Pakistan) failed to significantly limit Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad from raising money, recruiting, and training in Pakistan – and allowed candidates overtly affiliated with LeT front organizations to contest the July general elections.”
The ‘Country Reports on Terrorism 2018’ report mentioned that Pakistan experienced numerous terror attacks in 2018 and said that these terror groups target civilians, journalists, community leaders, security forces, law enforcement agents, and school killings.
The report also blames these terrorists of targeting minorities in Pakistan and said that military courts in the Islamic country are not transparent and is used to silence civil society activists.
