Washington: United States Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Saturday slammed China and Russia after they blocked a resolution of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on cross-border humanitarian aid to Syria and termed their decision as “shameful”.
“The Russian Federation’s and China’s veto yesterday of a Security Council resolution that allows for humanitarian aid to reach millions of Syrians is shameful,” Pompeo wrote in a statement, cited Sputnik news agency.
“To Russia and China, who have chosen to make a political statement by opposing this resolution, you have blood on your hands,” he added.
Russia and China vetoed the resolution that helps extend cross-border humanitarian aid to four million Syrians for a year by keeping three border crossings open.
