Washington DC: After US Embassy in Iraq was attacked on Tuesday, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that the United States will send additional forces to Baghdad.
“US has taken appropriate force protection actions to ensure the safety of American citizens, military personnel and diplomats serving in Iraq,” said Esper.
CNN reported that the US has sent two Apache helicopters to fly over the embassy in a show of force. An additional military unit based in the United States has also been put on standby to deploy if the situation in Baghdad significantly deteriorates.
The United States Ambassador to Iraq, Mathew H. Tueller, and other staff were evacuated from the US Embassy in Baghdad after it was stormed by thousands of protesters and militia fighters.
