Washington DC: US Secretary of State in his address at the formal launch of the International Religious Freedom Alliance mentioned Hindus as targeted minorities in Pakistan alongside other minorities being persecuted.
Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said, “We condemn terrorists and violent extremists who target religious minorities, whether they are Yezidis in Iraq, Hindus in Pakistan, Christians in northeast Nigeria, or Muslims in Burma.”
The United States had launched the International Religious Freedom Alliance to protect and preserve religious freedom across the world. According to Mike Pompeo it is an alliance of like-minded partners who treasure, and fight for, international religious freedom for every human being.
The 27 strong organization includes countries such as Brazil, Netherlands, Greece, United Kingdom, Australia, Israel, Ukraine etc.
Mike Pompeo also brought up the Chinese Communist Party’s hostilities against all religions in his address.
He said, “We condemn blasphemy and apostasy laws that criminalise matters of the soul. We condemn the Chinese Communist Party’s hostility to all faiths. We know several of you courageously pushed back against Chinese pressure by agreeing to be part of this Alliance, and we thank you for that.
He added that eight persons out of ten in the world live where they cannot practice their faith freely.
