Beijing: As the virus spreads in mainland China and the death toll crosses the 1000 mark, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the Coronavirus infection is a very grave global threat. The Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a people’s war to fight against the disease.
WHO identified the threat as very grave at a conference in Geneva where it was discussing about fighting the virus. The virus has spread to 25 countries and around 42,000 people are infected by it. The virus is said to have originated in Wuhan city in China.
The organization has officially dubbed the virus as Covid-19.
Chief of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “With 99 percent of cases in China, this remains very much an emergency for that country, but one that holds a very grave threat for the rest of the world.”
Ghebreyesus also asked everyone to use the current window of opportunity to hit hard against the virus threat and to fight united against it in every corner. He warned that if it is not done then more cases will emerge and everyone must pay a higher cost for it.
Meanwhile, the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has called dubbed China’s fight against Coronavirus as ‘people’s war’ and asked the authorities to take more decisive measures. The country is trying hard to contain the spread of the disease by isolating the regions that are affected. They are preventing people with fever from visiting hospitals that are outside their home districts, in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.
