Washington DC: Giving hints that there would be a showdown between the United States and China regarding the spread of COVID-19, the US President accused the World Health Organization (WHO) for being one sided with China.
In a press conference, the US President, Donald Trump, said, “It (WHO) has been very very much sided with China. A lot of people are not happy about it.”
The Presidents response came after he was questioned about the allegations by Republican Senator Marco Rubio. The Senator accused the WHO for showing favouritism to China, where the novel coronavirus originated.
In addition, Congressman Michael McCaul also questioned the integrity of WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus who had relations with China in the past. According to reports, China was instrumental in getting Ghebreyesus the top post at WHO.
Congressman Greg Steube, alleged that WHO functioned as a mouthpiece of China and said that both WHO and China must face the consequences of the spread of the disease once the dust settles.
The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is accused of siding with Chinese propaganda to hide the coronavirus cases. Ghebreyesus had gone to China to meet with President Xi Jinping in January and praised the Chinese government’s seriousness in tackling the outbreak and also lauded the transparency of the authorities.
The total worldwide death count from COVID-19 have crossed 20,000 with 4,71,518 people suffering from the virus in 170 countries.
