Britain: Britain in an attempt to remove period-poverty, became the latest country to remove Tampon Tax, eliminating sales taxes on Sanitary products.
“Sanitary products are essential, so it’s right that we do not charge VAT. we have already rolled out free sanitary products in schools, colleges and hospitals and this commitment takes us another step closer to making them available and affordable for all women”, said Treasury Chief Rishi Sunak.
As per the European Union laws, countries were not allowed to reduce the rate of VAT on menstrual products below 5% thus categorizing it under luxury items. The step was taken by the Britain administration soon after their withdrawal from the EU.
