United States: Several social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube on Wednesday locked US President Donald Trump’s accounts for 12 hours citing violation of community guidelines.
Twitter on Wednesday decided to lock Trump’s account in view of the violent situation at the Capitol in Washington. In a series of tweets, Twitter informed that Donald Trump’s account will remain locked if the tweets are not removed.
“As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington D C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy”, said Twitter Safety after the removal of the tweets.
“This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked”, informed Twitter Safety.
The Twitter’s action comes after Social Media giants Facebook and YouTube removed Trump’s video to supporters. Facebook’s VP of integrity Guy Rosen in a Tweet called this ‘an emergency situation’ and contributes to the risk of ongoing violence.
“This is an emergency situation and we are taking appropriate emergency measures, including removing President Trump’s video. We removed it because on balance we believe it contributes to rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence”, said Rosen in the Tweet.
