The UK has stripped China’s state-owned TV channel of its broadcasting licence in the country. Ofco, UK’s communication regulator said, it revoked the UK licence for China Global Television Network (CGTN), an international English language satellite news channel.
CGTN had been available on free and pay TV in the UK. It was found in an investigation that the licence holder lacked editorial control and had links to China’s ruling Communist Party.
Regulators started looking into the channel after several people had filed complaints about violating rules.
Taking account of all the facts Ofcom has decided that it is appropriate to revoke the licence for CGTN to broadcast in the UK.
