The enormous container ship MV Ever Given which was stuck at the Suez Canal for almost a week was refloated today (March 29).
Intensive efforts were made to push and pull the ship with 10 tugboats and remove the sand with several dredgers at spring tide. An all-Indian crew comprising 25 Indian nationals remains aboard the MV Ever Given container ship.
The MV Ever Given which is longer than four football fields has been wedged diagonally across the canal since March 23. Hundreds of vessels which were carrying crude oil and other items remained trapped in the canal waiting to pass while some ships took an alternative route between Asia and Europe around the Cape of Good Hope, adding extra two weeks to the journey which led to delay in deliveries. The crisis held up $9 billion in global trade each day.
