Yoga, India’s valuable gift to the world, is once again being celebrated on June 21. Various programs are being conducted to celebrate and spread the awareness and the importance of Yoga. Countries across the world observe Yoga Day after the United Nations 2014 resolution declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga,co-sponsored by 175 countries .
The word ‘Yoga’ was first mentioned in our sacred book ‘Rigveda’, over 5000 years back. Yoga is an art, aims at physical,mental as well as spiritual discipline .The word ‘Yoga’ is originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to unite’. A perfect balancing of mind and body can be attained by practicing Yoga. Man and Nature becomes one and one’s inner consciousness unite with Universal consciousness if practiced properly.
The main objective of Yoga is self realization, thus by attaining freedom from all stress and other mental obstacles.
