Colombo, July 12 (UNI) A motion has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an interim order restraining former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa from leaving the country without the permission of the top court, it was reported on Tuesday.
The motion seeks a similar ban on former Central Bank Governors Ajith Nivard Cabraal and W.D. Lakshman and former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance S.R. Atygalle, the Daily Mirror reported.
This motion had been filed pursuant to a Fundamental Rights petition filed by Sri Lankan swimmer and coach Julian Bolling and former Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chandra Jayaratne.
The petitioners are seeking an order to take legal action against those responsible for financial irregularities and mismanagement of Sri Lanka;s economy.
The petitioners maintained that they have been reliably informed that some of the above respondents may leave the country to avoid giving information sought by the petitioners and consequently prevent a proper investigation.
